I like to know what are the supporting documents (eg. copies of GC and Passport etc.) need to be submitted along with application form N-400.

I like to change my first name (an option available on the form). Do I need to submit additional information for this request or just fill in the application or provide more info at the time of interview . Please let me know if you have any suggestions and input. Thanks.

There is a good Document Checklist for what to submit with the N-400 at the very end of A Guide to Naturalization, which is the USCIS publication about the whole naturalization process.

This forum has a "sticky" thread at the top about documents you may need to bring to the interview. The list of documents asked for at interviews appears to vary considerably from DO to DO, so read the interview experiences posted on this forum from your particular DO.

Request for Name change on form N-400

NewRunner, thanks for your input. Do you know if name change request affect naturalization processing time. Do I need to furnish more information (such as reason for name change) or not required at the time of N-400 form submission.

I personally do not have experience with the name change issue. From what I have read on this forum, choosing the name change on the N-400 does not affect the scheduling timeline for the interview, but it may affect the scheduling of the oath. Look on the Document Checklist to see if you have to include anything specific as it relates to Name Change.

In the Washington DC DO, a name change usually means that the oath cannot be taken the same day at the USCIS office in Fairfax, VA, where the interview is done, but rather the oath must be taken at the Federal District Court in Alexandria, VA, where the name change is made.

I would suggest you do a search for "name change" on the whole forum to see what other people's experiences have been. I have seen lots of people go through name changes without any problem.
