Documents need for GC mother returns to US with her new born baby outside US

Hi,

Thanks for all posting.

I and my wife are Green card holders planning to have baby in India.

1. My wife is planning to spend more then 6 months and less then 1 year in India. Do we need to apply for re-entry permit?
2. Do we need Baby Transportation letter for US consulate? I am from Hyderabad, India, can we get baby transportation letter from Hyderabad consulate?
3. Do we need baby and mother to present at the consulate for getting this letter?
4. What other documents do we need?

While a reentry permit is not mandatory, it is advisable to apply for one because pregnancy difficulties could delay her and/or the baby's ability to return to the US.

She won't need anything from the US consulate. Just make sure to get a birth certificate and passport for the baby.
