Hey, I wanted to renew my and my spouse's EAD card. I read from another thread that I need the following documents. Can someone help me clarify my questions? Thanks a lot.

I-485 Reciept Copy
I-140 Approved copy (QUESTION: so even for my spouse, we only need to submit my I-140 approval, right?)
All EADs copy
EAD Tracking form from your earlier Approved EAD (QUESTION: what is this tracking form?)
I-94 copy
Two latest paystubs copy (QUESETION: my spouse is an F-1 student and has not really used the ead card for graduate assistantship. are the paystubs still required?)

QUESTIONS:

I remember when I applied for EAD card for the first time, my lawyer prepared a I765 form. Do I need it for renewals?

Finally, where do I send the documents to? And I need to include personal checks for the precessing fees, right?

Many thanks!

Presuming you are applying EAD as c(9).

Make a cover letter (Format below). If you are sending two applications, you can combine the check, and mention in cover note.
Put papers in the following sequence, bundled together for each application.

1. Check of $175. (For each application)
2. Cut-off section from the existing EAD mailer.
3. Two photographs - As per passport requirement, mark A# and name by pencil at the back, put it in the envelop and name and # on envelop.
4. Application I-765 duly filled.
5. Copy front and back of existing EAD card.
6. Copy of I-94 front and back. The one issued when you entered US, and latest one you got if you extended your H1.
7. Copy of pending I-485 receipt.
8. Copy of first page, last page of Passport.
9. Copy of driving license.

Last two requirements are for the identification purpose; therefore the copies must be clean. Some people recommend color copies, but are not necessary. I got it with BW copies.

DEFINATELY you need 765 Form.

Send it to Service center your case is pending.

Wow, thank you soooo much for taking the time to answer. Very clear. Just one more minor issue:

what is "Cut-off section from the existing EAD mailer"? What is an existing EAD mailer?

I guess this is a stupic question, but I am clueless.

This is the top portion of the letter, which you got when your previous(existing) EAD arrived. It is a thick paper letter, on which EAD is inserted by corner.
This top portion has A# barcode on it, and says sent it when requesting next EAD.
In fact it is not the ultimate requirement, but it facilitate faster processing, because at the mail room, the person will quickly scan the number and enter your new case.
If you have lost this, then you can send new request without it, but it may get delayed.

The EAD renewal fee is USD 180.00 per application as per USCIS site.

"Cut-off section from the existing EAD mailer" - this is there with your EAD approval document which came in last year.

Thanks,

Thank you Andy_NJ for correction.
lenscrafterslen, I apologize for putting old information on fee, which could be very costly to you.

The EAD mailer, as stated above, is the document which came with your previous EAD card. It says "797D" on it and also explicitly states to the effect that if you send this portion with your renewal application, it will help in speeding up the process.

And just FYI, I did not send any copies of the passport, color or otherwise, as it was not a requirement. Also, I did not send a copy of the Drivers License, again as it was not a requirement. I did send the copies of 1-94 as stated above which is a requirement. And my EAD renewal was approved very quickly. I did send 797D though.

Thank you all. And Commander, no problem--I have not mailed the check yet.

One final clarification, the cutout of the mailer should be the cutout of the ORIGINAL, not of a copy, right?

Once this is clear, I think I am ready to submit my documents! Thanks again.

Send original, not copy.

Is pics required? Oops did I miss it?

I had applied my wife's EAD renewal online. She got a fingerprinting notice promptly. She gave both fingerprinting and they took pics. Then I sent all relevant documents to VSC (mentioned address) without pics. These all happened in Nov'04 and we are still waiting for approval.

Are pics necessary? I got the documents info from EAD forum and based on that I sent.

Am I missing something here?

Please help.

I don't think two pics are reqired once an applicant had fingerprinting and pics taken. I am about to renew my wife's EAD as well. We would like to submit it online about 3 months in advance just in case.

One question I have is: can my wife have her fingerprinting and pics taken in an ASC near her area, i.e. Arlington, VA, while I, as a primary applicant, still live in the original place in PA?

Need Biometrics in EAD?

when I read the instructions it said if you didn't have BioMetrics, You need to pay extra $30 to do biometrics?
I am applying based on C9, do I need to do biometrics (which I know is to take photo) for EAD? I asked a lady in CIS, she said I need biometrics in EAD application too! is it true?

dont they process EAD applications online at www.USCIS.gov anymore?

I never submitted any document and did it online. 3 EADs. No document was asked each time I took appointment and went for foto and finger printing 10 minutes in line and we were done 2 - 3 weaks card reached home.
