Hi,

Seems I have misplaced original certificates of my birth and marriage.I have all school certificates, passport, visa, etc.,showing the DOB and I have the photocopy of my marriage certificate.

For CP,

1.Would these be OK?

2.Or do they insist for ONLY original certificates?

3. Do they ask for originals only for CP or even for all types of visas? If they dont, then why insist only for CP?

Thanks

They do require and check original birth and marriage certificate. And they keep a photo copy for themselves. You should get a duplicate copy of the two.

1. No, they are not!

2. They would see the originals and then keep the photocopies.

3. The question of why they insist would be better answered by
the consulate. While I cannot speak for all types of visas, I
know that for H4 we had to produce the original marriage
certificate. For H1 (more than 5 years ago) my School leaving
certificate was sufficient to establish the date of birth.

My advise would be to work on getting these certificates.

To the best of my knowledge, the Birth and Marriage Certificates from Indian Consulate will not be accepted by US Consulate.
Earlier, I was in a similar situation.
