I got married in India. I am trying to apply for H4 for my wife who is on H1. Is marriage certificate that is provided by Indian authorities valid as proof of marriage for applying H4 here? Or, Do i need any additional documentation in support of marriage certificate? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ram.

If your wife is in H1 why do you need to apply H4 for her? Is she not working?

You just need your H1 approval notice, original marriage certificate issed in India, her passport for her H4.

She is working. The only reason is her H1 expires soon and her employer hasn't filed labor in last 365 days :( . The only reason I am concerned is my marriage certificate doesn't even explicitly state it is from India. It does have "district magistrate" or some kind or typical round seal.

If she is completing 6 years in H1, she CANNOT convert to H4 since allowed time under H1 + H4 combined is 6 years max.
The marriage cert from India will be accepted as long as it is in English. If not, a notarized translation is required.

If primary applicant is eligible for 7th year extension at this point of filing then dependent is eligible for H4 extension even if H1 + H4 is exceding 6 Years.

That means
If primary applicant is in 7th Year H1b, then dependent can get H4 beyond 6 years of H1 + H4.
