Documents At Interview

Do you have to bring originals to the interview in case they are asked for, or are copies OK?

Originals are mandatory. But, I am going to take the originals + copies because some of the interview experiences I have read state that the Officer will keep the original if you don't bring copies e.g. Birth Certificate.

Thanks chaps, I'll be sure to take originals.

The reason I was asking is that the SSA insists that you send originals when you apply for your SSN and card. I'm expecting to receive my EAD in the next week or so, but I think it might be cutting it too fine to send off the docs to SSA then in case I don't get them back in time. I'll just have to wait until after the interview (which is Feb 2nd).

Did you check with SSA on the phone ? or visited SSA office? I don't think you need to send/give the originals.

Yes, you have to show the original documents when you are in the SSN office.

As Resident mentioned, take copies with you. Our IO took copies of some of the documents (if I remember right, mortgage records) even though we had sent it with our original application package.
