I'm looking for experienced advice here.

Entered the lottery in Oct 07. Was in Grade 12.

Got the first NL in the first days of June, when I was going through my final examinations.

Filled out DS-230 and DS-122 on June 6th.
Checked "High School Diploma." I thought what the heck, I'm gonna get my diploma anyway.

Finished my exams (gave my last paper) on June 13.

Got results in Aug 08. Result from Cambridge has no issuing date. Simply written June 2008 on the top.

Final certificate from the school says:
"Mr X passed his final exams in June 2008."

DS-230 photo is in school dress.

raevsky and LucyMo -- they really know what they are talking about -- say that I will not qualify because I did not have a High School Diploma when I filed the DS 230.

However, I have called the Embassy here and wrote to then. In both instances, they told me that one will qualify if they have a diploma by the time of the INTERVIEW.

Does anyone have an opinion?

P.S: I'm going to the embassy tommorow to talk to a Nepali staff(someone I know) who works in the Consular Section. Lets see what they have to say.
But I don't want to trust the Nepali staff of the Consular Section here. According to them, CN's higher than 18k for Asia in DV-09 will never go current.

you should be fine. as long as you have your diploma is in your hand on the interview date. unless your interviewee is in a real bad mood and pissed at something and he wants to take it out on you. it happens sometimes. which consulate you are going to go?? do you have two years of work experience? i would be worried about that more than i would worry about the diploma. good luck

I dont think you should be worried about anything, because as long as you have your Diploma in handy at the time of the interview I believe you should be fine.

Your line of thought is good. In the US nobody is perfect, but one looks for a clear and logical answer to the questions asked. Nothing to worry about. Just explain your situation if you need to, otherwise you will be just fine.- :)

You are worrying unnecessary thing. You should be ok. As far as I remember, the Consular doesn't even check for dates. As long as you have the necessary paperwork at the interview, that's all it matters to them.

It's too late to change now anyway. Take a deep breath, relax, and go with the interview according to schedule. Don't stress yourself too much. If you look stressed and worry at the interview, the Consular will be suspicous of you. If you look calm and confident, they will less likely to suspect you of doing any mistake.

One for the girls from Nepal last year had the same issue. When she was studying she filed her forms.

Now she is in US with GC

It is definitely not an issue and I doubt they are going to ask you about it. Don't bring it up unless they ask you!

The key to answering this question is the timing of the DS230 – DS122. While the best advise would be to file these ASAP after being selected, there is no real requirement to file them till a visa number is available. Of course doing this may delay your case. You could have easily filed them in Aug 08, or Sept 08, Oct 08 and so on. The decision to Grant you A DV visa will come down to the interview on the day. On that day you will have your required paperwork and your visa will be granted. If you had lied about a criminal conviction then you may run into problems. I can see why you might have a concern about this, but its not a significant enough detail for the embassy to refuse your visa. I would have have probably done exactly what you did.

While you may be talking to some one who is a Nepali staff member, they really cannot speak for the US consulate officer who will ultimately be assesing your visa application, so I would probably take what they say with a pinch of salt.
You worry too much!!! :-) Don't forget to visit me in Boston when you get your GC :-)
