Do you need to always be working during AOS?

Guys,

I\'m in this situation.

My RD is 04/30/01. Around the start of Jan.
I will/want-to change to a new job in a new geographic
area.

I want to take some time of (say two weeks) between
jobs. Is this permissable? Do I always need to be always
working whilst on AOS or can I take a few weeks off.

Suppose a worse situation and I get fired but have the
new job lined up to start in Jan. (I can only start this
job in Jan.). Can I sit around for a few months waiting for
the new job to start?

I mean I filed on 04/30/01.
I want to change jobs on 01/01/02.

So well over 180 days would have past by then.

Correct, but i thought there is still some cloud of confusion on how people are interpreting the 180-day rule for practical purposes? Is your new employer prepared to accept u in EAD? How do things practically work?
