my friend who did stamp at SF three weeks ago told me that on the approval notice, it says under 2 situations you may do the stamps: 1) you need to travel soon, 2) your EAd will expire soon. either case, show evidence, does anyone have the same experience?

You must get a stamp on your PP to get plastic card

It is called I-551 and is a temporary evidence of permanent residence until you get your plastic card. They will not issue you a plastic card if you don\'t go for a PP stamp. Your approval notice for I-485 will have very clear instructions for your passport stamping. Perhaps, your friend is confused about the GC process. Just follow what the INS instructs you each time during your entire GC process.

BTW, I-551 stamp on the passport can be used for both travel and employment purposes. So, you don\'t have to apply for Visa, H-1s, or EADs anymore.

There

are some cases where the individual has given up and left the country.

In such cases when the attorney/individual get the notice and the person either does not show up for passport stamping (I-551 stamp) I think they treat the case as abandoned.

So It is very important that the person goes for passport stamping
when he/she receives approval and the approval notice.

Because of cases where the address is incorrect in the INS records and the mail gets returned etc. etc. it is also important that the individual checks avm and with attorney and iio if necessary in case his case is delayed beyond reasonable time.

Please stay on top of your case regularly
