Do you HAVE TO HAVE tax transcripts at the interview?

I noticed some folks indicating they carried at the interview their tax transcripts from the IRS indicating they don’t owe any money to the IRS. Do you have to have that at the time of interview? What about the people with no outstanding balance? Can we just take last 5 yrs of tax return documents? Will it be sufficient enough? Thanks

If your application are not marriaged based and everything is strait forward,
there is no need to get them.

It's entirely up to you. If is is not a marriage based case, and you don't mind spending 10-15 minutes on the phone with an IRS rep, going to your mailbox a week later, then get the transcripts. Otherwise, if you go to the interview and in the somewhat low likelihood that the IO asks for transcripts and you don't have them, be prepared for a follow-up request and delay.

It's just a matter of personal preference; keep ahead of the game or roll with the punches. Both paths will lead you to a successful journey.. just matters how much of a rush you are in and how much effort you want to invest into mitigations and "what-if's".
