Do we need to sign US passport

My wife and my son are US citizens. We are traveling to india soon. I noticed that page 1 ( opposite to inner cover page with pic) says at the bottom "NOT VALID UNTIL SIGNED BY THE BEARER"
Does it mean my wife will have to sign the passport? WHat about my 2 yr old son?
I will appreciate any replies
 
Yes, the passports have to be signed. For children, either of the parents can sign and then specify in parenthesis whether it was the Father or the Mother that signed it.
