Do we need EAD to start new job

Do we need EAD Card to start a new job after 180 days ? I never applied for EAD or AP, my RD is approaching 180 days within 2 months.

From what I heard, it is not enough to have EAD. One has to intimate INS his intention to change his job. The INS officer would then examine whether the new job is in the same category of the current job. Upon his approval, a new job can be taken.

  If anybody out there has a different experient, I would like to know the details.

I don\'t think you need officer\'s approval upfront. But the new employer has to inform INS about your employment with them with your job title, description and salary details.

Please go to immifo.com and search for 180 days and you will see lots of postings related to that.

I got laid off after 8 months of I-485 and got a new job ofcourse with my EAD. My lawyer told me that my status is okay.

I don\'t see a complete answer to the original question. Can that person take the new job by H1 transfer insted of EAD since he doesn\'t have applied EAD? The INS memo doesn\'t have coverage on this.
