Do we need biometrics to get the card?

I am a little confused, I got an I485 approval email last Saturday, but today, I got another email:
On October 4, 2005, the card order was completed and we mailed the
applicant's new card directly to him or her.

I have not done any biometrics and have not received the I485 approval notice yet, is it possible the card order was completed already? or is it a mistake by USCIS? Thanks

did you traveld abroad recently?
 
If you had done an index fingerprint, signature, and they have a recent pic (like for EAD) then YES the card can be made and mailed directly.
