Do they take away both AP documents when you re-enter the US?

I have a valid AP (two Advance Parole documents that look the same). I plan to travel to Canada, come back to the US by land and then a few days later travel to my home country in Europe and come back. I heard that lately the immigration authorities at the port of entry have been retaining both copies of the AP, which would mean that this document only allows you one re-entry and that you have to apply for another one to travel again. Is this true? Any experiences? Can I take only one copy to the port of entry, and if they ask for another copy say that I don’t have it (“did not take it to the trip with me”, or “surrendered on an earlier trip”)?

I greatly appreciate any advice!

This is nonsense and obviously from an unreliable source. One should not rely on hear-say but on real knowledge as well as common sense. Besides, if any IO ever attempts to retain both copies, you have every right to ask for one copy back. The document itself (normally) states that it is valid for multiple applications for parole.
