Hi,

Inspite of my repeated explanations to the contrary, my parents are insisting that they heard from other people in India that they could qualify for some kind of benefits from the US government. I don't know where these other folks are getting these ideas. They even say that some other parents are actually receiving pensions from the US government.

So could you please clear this for me. Do parents of green card holders qualify for benefits from the US government just for being here in the US on visitor's visas? Under what conditions will they qualify, if any? Have any of you ever tried to do something like this?

Thanks.

Completely false rumors. Why do you think US government will give pensions to all and sundry foreigners?
Even US residents and citizens get social security benefits only if they paid social security taxes when they were employed in the US for at least 10 years. The amount of tax paid determines how much benefit they will get.
