Contact embassy or visit web site

Every country has its own policy. I find that the best way to confirm such things is to call the consular office of the respective country and verify. Citizenship would change things drastically but I doubt if PR does.

Good Luck.

Yes, you need a visa for most European countries even though a green card. One of my friends who wanted to visit UK, France and I don't know what other countried found out that he needs a visa to visit most of these countries. The procedure is quite cumbersome it seems. You need to have confirmed tickets and accomodation before you can apply for visa. I don't know the exact details. Check with the consulates and other people.

Yes, you need a VISA

I'm planning to visit my sister in UK in the near future. The VISA info. is available via http://britain-info.org/visas/YesVisit.asp The application only asks for the family member's name and relationship, but doesn't have any provision to get some kind of support affadavit/invitation letter from the person staying in UK. Is it sufficient to simply mention the contact info. or do we need something from the other side too? When I went there few years back, I had to submit a copy of hotel reservations.

Visa waivers and reciprocity agreements are for the country of citizenship. India, China and many other countries do not have such agreements with the western world. I helped a friend apply for a Visa to UK to visit his girlfriend a year back (before 9/11). Basically the trip needed to be planned, w/ blocked tickets, blocked reservations etc. In addition he was asked to take bank statements to show he could finance his stay there for the duration of stay.

Good luck...
