A family friend of mine , who have been settled in US for more than 25 years,
are intersted to apply and obtain OCI. They have not retained the cancelled INDIAN passport. Can they still apply for OCI.
Search this forum, I remember one guy posting in the tracker and he had the same issue. I think the Consl called him and asked for a sworn affidavit saying he doesn't have an Ind pport. Am sorry I don't know which tracker or the persons user id.

Yes, they can apply. I had a similar situation-- could not find the Indian Passport. We had to fax a statement saying such and that we're citizens of USA only. This was at SF consulate. Be sure to contact the OCI team at the consulate you're applying for any specific requirements. They will likely need other proof that they're of Indian origin.
