do I need to make appointment to get interim EAD in BUffalo

I485 pending since Apr. 2003. have sent out material to renewal EAD on 04/13/04. Will have three months (90days) soon, my question is:
if I have to go to Buffalo to get an interim EAD, do I need to call them to make appointment first.
Anybody has this experience??
