Do I need to file I-765 while I'm on H-1B

I'm from Indonesia, but I have been in United States for almost 10 years, and I have maintained my legal status so far. I entered US in 1996 with F1, then I graduated in June 2000, I got OPT, then I got H-1 on Feb 2001. Now, I'm on 2nd H-1 period until Feb 2007, I've been working for the same company so far because I'm also on Employment based Green Card process (I-140 is on going).

In April 2005, I got letter from KCC that I won DV-2006. My case# is AS42XX. I decided to AoS here in US. I've sent all the forms to KCC, I got 2nd letter (1-page).

My cut-off number available on March 2006, and I've just sent $375 payment to Dept of State on beginning of March. Now, I'm about to submit the AOS forms... (sorry for long intro...) :(

My questions are:
1. Do I need to file I-765 while I'm on H-1B?
2. Will I get the "real physical" Green Card before Sept 30, 2006?
3. Does it mean when I have the Green Card in my hand, I can travel abroad just by having that Green Card (I decided not to file I-131/AP until I got my GC, to save some money too)
4. Can I work somewhere else after I get GC without worrying working permit?

FILLING THE I-485
1. On Part 1, what should I write "Current USCIS Status"? H-1B?
2. On Part Part 3, what "Nonimmigrant Visa Number"? Is it my F1 on my old passport page? Which one, the Control Number or the red-printed number?
3. On Support Evidence, is letter from employer necessary? OR copy of I-129 Approval Notice is enough?
4. Do I get letter for interview appointment before or after I-485 submission?

Any tips before sending these forms to make process faster?

I really appreciate you reading this long thread. God bless you,

Re supporting documents

Do I need tax return from only the last 2 years I've worked OR the whole 5 years I've worked?

Thanks

hi esusanto77,

Usually, they require tax returns for the last 3 years, but you will have it listed when you receive a notice with the interview date.

Good luck,

Thanks for your reply. So you're saying I just need to prepare them for interview, and now I don't have to include the 3 years tax return upon i-485 submission? Is that wht you mean? Thank you greg_dv2006

Esusanto77,

Yes, you don't have to include your tax returns while submitting I-485 ...you will just need them for the interview. Hope this helps.

I-485 go to Chicago,IL or Laguna Niguel, CA?

On the I-485 instructions, I know it says: PO Box 805887, Chicago, IL 60680-4120. On USCIS website, somehow it brings me to California Service Centerin Llaguna Niguel, CA.

You should send it to the Chicago address. It will then get forwarded to your local USCIS office. When submitting the I-485, I would insert a colored sheet with "Diversity Visa Winner" in large bold print in front of the packet. Also on the envelope, I would write the same with a red felt pen.
