Do I need my passport stamped for foreign travel when I have a Green Card?

My wife and I just got our physical green cards and I-485 approval notices. Our Green Cards are valid for 10-years each. Our H status had expired a year ago and we we legally here in the US based on valid EADs. My wife is planning to go to India. I have heard of many stories of persons not allowed to board in India if you do not have a valid visa / stamp in your passport for US entry.

However, the 1-yr valid I-551 stamp in you passport appears to be an option at the USCIS offices if you have a valid I-485 approval notice and not your actual green card. Is this correct? Should we try to get our passport stamped here in the US even if we have our Green Cards?

Can any one share their travel experence without / without temporary I-551 passport stamp regardless of if you already had you physical green card?

Thanks!
Rog

What you heard is incorrect. Your physical GC is enough to get through immigration in India
