Do I need a lawyer for O1?

I'm currently on J1, planning to switch O1.
Do I really need a lawyer for O1 paperwork?
Would they increase the chance of approval?

The lawyer who I contacted is asking for $8000 ($5000 initially+ $3000 on approval).
Any experience with a lawyer or doing on your own?

If you believe that you meet the basic qualification requirements of O1 visa, you do not really need a lawyer for O1 visa application.
