Hello, I have one simple question that is bothering me. I am a canadian citizen by birth, and just found out I am an american citizen by my mother. Now here is the question, do I have to claim income earned in both countries??? Say for instance, I worked here in canada since I was 16 years old. Do I have to declare that on usa taxes as well. so I would be paying both income taxes, for canada and usa . My friends just tell me, don't worry about it because usa only needs u to pay taxes if u were working in the usa, and same for canada.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you for this link, I am going to read it as soon as I finish writing this. I have been debating back and fourth about becoming duel citizen, but what is holding me back now are the taxes, because back in 2001 my husband died while on the job, and i got a big settlement . Canadian Income tax did not tax me as it was an inheritence, but taxed me on the interest while it was in my bank account. Is the US the same????
