hello FOlks,

An Advise required.

My present passport is getting expired on june 18th. I am not planning to go outside USA until I finish my N400 formalities.

I know i have an option of getting it renewed b4 the interview. so kindly dont comment on that angle.

My Q's .....

My interview is scheduled for June 30th. Should I got to have an Unexpired passport for the Citizenship interview ???? I haven't seen that as a REQ anywhere ?

I would like to hear if anyone has gone to Citizenship Interview with Expired passport of their previous Citizenship country ? How was the reaction for Immigrations officers......?

thanks in advance fro responses....... Sri-il

You dont need to renew your passport. When i went to the interview,i just took my expired passport and it was no big deal.

You do not need to have a valid passport to remain in the USA as a permanent resident, therefore you do not require a valid passport for your naturalization interview. So you are good to go.

You should however take your expired passports with you [that covers the your time as a GC-holder] to the interview. The IO may want to leaf through your passport and verify your trips reported on the N-400 with the actual stamps.

I have a similar type situation with something slightly different.

My most recent passport expired and I had submitted it to the Indian consulate as part of the passport renewal process. The passport is currently with the Indian Consulate in NY. Since I have been out of India for a long time, the passport is still in their hands as they are trying to do a police check back in India. This has been going on for over a year now.

I have in my posession the expired passport from before that. However, I was 6 years old in that picture.

I am 35 years old now! My green card also has an image of me from when I was 14.

Would this be an issue when I go for my interview? Please advise.

What's wrong with these people? If you have been here for so long what purpose does it serve to do a background check in India?

Wow, there is always something to laugh when you see how the bureaucrats work.

Just explain the situation to the IO during your interview. It should not be a problem. As long as your GC is valid and as long as you bring the passport that is in your possession, you should be fine. If the IO needs to see the passport that is with the Indian consulate, then you have to figure out how to get it from them.
