Diversity lottery - what a joke

People born in India, a country of 1.1 billion people, have to fight with each other for a maximum of 9800 green cards through employment. They are not eligible for the Diversity lottery.

But Togo, a country of 5 million people, got 2138 green cards thru the lottery. Morocco got 5980 green cards.

The US clearly does not think much of the value Indians add here.

Keep in mind it is diversity lottery. So adding more south Asian or Chinese will not create more diversity but bringing people form Togo does. I think American political interest is also involved.

Do you know how few Indians are there in US? Out of 290 million, there are only 1.6 million Indian origin people. That is 0.55%. Considering that India makes up 18% of world's population, do you think 0.55% is diverse enough?

I think most of us are posting things out of frustration, It is upto US government to decide how many people they want to allow from each country.

Well they have to include each Indian State separately (because so much different culture, food style, language and traditions)

Just like you cant eat Chinese everyday, cant eat Indian too many times. To have the diversity US need to have more flavours. May be Togos taste different.

Unfortunately we see diversity of 3 states from India out here (2 southern + 1 western) legal or otherwise ,who form the major bulk of 1.6 million indians.
