Diversity Lottery and F-1 Application

Hi,

I am considering entering the diversity lottery this year. However, I may wish to apply for an F1 student visa in the next couple of years.

I understand that an F1 visa is only issued if the interviewer is satisfied that you have no intention to remain in the US after the F1 expires.

I was just wondering if a past application to the diversity lottery might affect my chances of getting an F1 visa? Would the interviewer be able to find out if I had applied to the lottery? Is it common for interviewers to ask about this? Could an F1 application be declined on this basis?

Thank You

Past applications to the DV will not affect your chance of getting F1 visa. The Consulate will have no idea that you applied for the lottery. It is not common question to be asked and it is almost never asked during an F1 visa interview.

Don't worry about applying DV and applying F1 in the future.
