a. After you get the passport stamped, if you quit the job within a month or two and join some other company, can you loose your GC if the
Employer is pissed and files a complain? The fact is that 99.9% of people change the company after getting the GC. Its just a matter of
time. Most people/lawyer say that it is safe to remain employed with the company for atleast 6 months before making a jump.

   b. There is a new law which says that if you are waiting for 485 aprvl for more than 6 months, you can change employer if the new job is
similar to the previous one. Now imagine if you have filed for 485, after 6 months you can make use of new law and change the job.
Now lets consider the situation when you get 485 aprvd after 8 months of filing of your 485 application. In this case does it mean that one
should not quit for another 6 months?

Aren\'t they contradictory to each other??

   Any comments??

as i know many people just left immediatelly after getting GC. if you don\'t screw up your employer, why would they bother? just try to keep low profile and good relationship. even it happens, i don\'t think it is so easy for them to revoke your GC.

Your answer to point "b" remains to be answered by the INS interpretation which is expected soon. From what i read, after filing for 485 u can quite after 6 months wheather u get ur CG or not. I hope INS interprets the same way.

Mysonny,

I logged in today to post the exact same question that you did. I am
glad you did. I met with my attorney on Thursday to file for my I485.
She said the same contradictory thing.

On one hand she said that I could go ahead and change jobs once 6
months of 485 processing was over. But on the other hand when I asked
her about changing jobs after getting the approval, she said she
recommends waiting for 6 months after getting the green card. It is
contradictory.

I don\'t know what to believe....

i don\'t think anybody could give you a definite answer on such issues without INS guidance. even attorneys have different interpretations on such issues. many people switched job after passort stamped. i don\'t take it as a big issue.
