Discrepancy in Processing Times?

I am both encouraged and confused by the information posted here, but certainly more informed than when I started ! Thank you all.

We filed concurrently (I-130, I-765, I-485, etc) and I had been trying in vain to figure out which Service Center to look at for dates. We have been told our wait for AOS would be 1.5 years. However, I see people here who are getting interviews in just a few months?! Wow ! Am I in the wrong part of the country?

At any rate, I called the NSC number and spoke with a very nice young man who told me it would indeed probably be 1.5 years on the AOS; that there was no way to check status of the I-130 (in Texas), that the I-485 should be checked through Memphis, and the I-765 through the NSC. Is that correct?

I will try to post my timeline in my signature and continue to check the other threads for updates, as well as posting my timelines in the EAD thread. Thank you all !

I'm confused as well, though this forum also makes me hopeful. I was told elsewhere I could expect maybe a couple of years, but the company immigration lawyer, who deals with quite a few marriage based apps, says I could expect it in 6 or so months. Maybe they just say 1.5 years to cover their ass.

It really depends on the DO and to be honest with you, I do believe things are moving faster. We were also told by the 1800 number and a lawyer that we talked to before sending all the forms in, that it will probably take between 18-24 months. It only took 6 months. Who knows...

They tell you two years for a reason. If they told you 6-8 months, at 8 months and 1 day, the lawsuits would be filed - do a keyword search for lawsuit on this board and you'll see what I mean. This way they tell you 2 years and when it's done in 8 months, the USCIS looks like a champ for speeding things up.

Underpromise, overdeliver.

Good point, Eddie. I'm glad you got a "light bulb" in your head, tho, instead of the "big bell of doom" that I have thinking about being stuck in the process of gov't databases for possibly, uh, years. While, in the meantime, my hubby can't work, can't drive, can't open a bank account without a SSN, etc, ad nauseum :D

Must Learn Patience !

at least you are able to file. some can't even put in application.

try the bank of america and you can get a bank account there. and in florida one can a dl with the receipts from i-765 and i-485. with that you can get license. don't know of other states.

Thanks for the tip about Bank of America. I had heard they were a bit more lenient than the others. I tried all my local banks and in some, they won't even let him on a joint acct until he has the GC. The DL situation in Tennessee is just as horrible as the banks: here you get a 'driving certificate'. I've heard New York is good for DL, and thanks for the info about Florida !

I even got a notice from my employer last week saying they needed his SS# or payments on any "medical insurance claims" might be delayed.

But you're right - I shouldn't complain - at least we could file :) Perspective is needed sometimes when living in limboland !

yes, some are married to citizens and even have children witht hem. but they can't even file. can't pay any fine or even leave for a year and then come back. they must stay out for ten. just think of having to leave or be w/o husband for one or even ten years. and perhaps their salary might help to pay bills. some have to turn to welfare because their spouse can't work.

call the local and dmv and let them know.

That's pretty much what I figure. Do that all the time myself :D

I have been able to renew my driving license (DL) from the court house in Athens, TN in June even though i was on student visa. Took only about 10mins and you get the DL. I have SSN from employment from the school. I filed I-130/I-485/I-765 in July. If you are anywhere close to Athens, TN you might as well try there.

Not sure if the court house do first time DL application. If not, then you can only do it at the DMV and they might only give you driving certificate. :(
