Different notification letters

Hi all!

I just found a French forum where a winner (DV2014) posted the notification letter he received from DOS. In his letter, it says that 100,000 individuals were selected for DV2014. In my notification letter, it says 125,000. Anyone knows what this may be about?

Every year there are 50,000 green cards but they select 125,000 people and by process of elimination they knock off those who don't follow up on paperwork, those who don't have finances, those who don't have work experience, those who don't have the educational background, those who are fraudulent/sham cases, multiple entries.

By doing so they create whats called holes if I'm not mistaken thereby using up almost all those selected. 125,000 selectees is to basically cover this entire process otherwise if they only selected 50,000 people and half of them didn't get green cards it would result in a whole load of green cards left over for nothing.
 
That is very odd. I too have the 125,000 number and so far that's what everyone is reporting.

Do you mind sharing the name of the forum?
 
Read it carefully my friends, it says "approximately 100,000 people were chosen" so it could be more than 100,000.

Nice explanation but that was not her question :) 125K is a bit too much considering it has been usually around 100K in the past years. If this french guy's letter is accurate, we may be looking at another funny business of DoS. :)

It is strange though why they'd go for such a high jump.
 
Momo, the issue is that while the rest of us all got 125k selectees, his letter says 100k. That is very bizarre. Why are they sending him a NL that's different than ours? Is he sure he won 2014 and not 2013?
 
The French guy claims to have won DV2014. I couldn't find anywhere else a NL with 100,000 selectees for 2014. But then...not all selectees participate in forum discussions. Either the French guy posted a fake letter (from previous years) or we're looking at some funny business (as aos13 put it). Still, I don't see why DOS would have 2 distinct notification letters. What would be the purpose?
 
There can't be two different types of notification letters. The one that comes on May 1st at Entrant Status Check is THE letter.

I don't honestly but I wouldn't buy his information. Its impossible that one person comes out different from the entire bunch. I mean it's like in a tree of green apples, one red apple pops out!

Even the 2013 letters are the same as what you guys got for 2014.

Haha! I think so too. He has only one post and then he just disappeared. So odd that someone would lie about it. Oh well, there are all sorts of people in this world....
