When my daughter became Canadian Citizen, Canada allowed to add an english to her first name on citizenship card/passport. Then, her passport has an English name more than birth certificate.
Which one does she fill to I485 form? (name of passport or name of birth certificate)
I do not know which one is legal name.
Thanks!

I am not professonal and probably wrong.

I used my certificate name. But, my passport also indicate both that official is birth certificate and also know as blabla..

I would fill out I-485 the way she wants her green card to read, as long as she has at least one form of official ID bearing the same name (for fingerprinting purposes). Then, in "other names used", be sure and include other names she has been known by (including passport version).

In my case, due to different official translation approaches, my foreign passport, my original work visa (and SS card + driver's license as a result) and my most recent I-94 have 3 different spellings of my first name. For my I-485 I picked the one that's more logical (the one I want to be known by), but included the other spellings as well in "other names used". Didn't have any problems and my GC now bears the spelling I chose.

Good luck!

No, my name on I-485 couldn't be the same as on my birth certificate, because my birth certificate wasn't in English. Which is why I ended up with 3 spellings of my first name on official documents - differences in translation/transliteration to English. I just picked the spelling I wanted and went with it.

At FP appointment, I brought along passport and driver's license, although the spelling they bore wasn't the same as on my I-485. So then they asked to see my I-94 (in my case it was the bottom part of I-797 nonimmigrant status approval notice) - the spelling matched there.

I'd say - bring a picture ID with you and also an ID that matches the name spelling on your I-485. Good luck!
