different name in documents

My mother commonly uses 2 names: one is shorter version of the other name. My passport has the shorter version of it. But my Birth certificate has the longer version of it. Will this cause any problems? if i get an affidavit from my mother with both names (alias), will that be enough? Or, can I update my passport with an alias name for my mother?

Take the affidavit and mention the other version of the name.

An example:

I, Shanta < surname upon marriage > ( alias Shantamma < surname upon marriage > ) , ( maiden name : Shantamma < surname at birth > ), here by declare...............

This should be alright.
