Hi,

I got my EAD renewed recently.. and I noticed it has different A# (Alient No.) than what I have on my previous EAD/I-485 receipt. I talked to IIO at 1-800 no., he says your no. has been changed because of some consolidation process. I talked to my attorney on the same day. She says, she talked to INS customer service and they say the original documents should be sent back to INS to correct the mistake, which may take around 4 months and the documents may never come back. So I am getting cotradictory info from two diff sources. Did this happen to anybody? What should be done? Any info/thought will be really appreciated....

Thanks,

My guess is that it should not take a long time to correct this error. Your EAD is approved anyway so you should be able to continue to work.

I think call BCIS again and hopefully you'll speak to a different IIO this time and insist on giving you detailed information.

Your attorney might also have some experience in handling such cases. Share your discussion from IIO with your attorney. I don't think this should pose any problem.

You might endup sending the copies of your I485/EAD receipt notices and EAD card alongwith the perforated portion of the EAD approval letter to BCIS. It should take the same amount of time as it takes to prepare a new card that is approximately 4 to 8 weeks.

Hope this is helpful.

In my case the EAD dates were...

... not correct.

However, fortunately (and more expensively) that was done through Lawyer. So my attorney, suggested that his office would write a letter to get it fixed. If that does not work, we would have to apply again.

With the grace of good luck, they heeded the request through letter and re-issued a corrected one.

All this was last year (and that was my second EAD). I am due for applying again (3rd EAD)! Have just send one today. Hope things would be OK this time (esp. considering that I am doing it myself - can't afford additional $500 for attorney fees!)

As to the big case (485)....

I had the same thing happen to me.

My EAD renewal had a new A #. I had actually applied to the local BCIS office for the EAD. The lady there said that I had 2 A#s and they had gone ahead and consolidated them into one.

BCIS likes to have only one A# per person. In case you also had a previous employer apply for I-140 then that would have got assigned an A#. Lets say you switch jobs and go thru the process again and the new employers files a new I-140, that will get a new A#. At some time, when BCIS reviews your case, they will realize that you have 2 A#s assigned and will consolidate the records into one.

There is nothing to be worried about. My lawyer wasn't either.

Are you paying your lawyer by the hour? Just curious.

Thanks friends, for sharing your opinions..

Did you send your original EAD card/AP documents for the correction? If so, how did you use them?

Thanks again...

rsinha,

Thanks for your reply. I have a question... I am still working with the same employer who filed my I-140. I didn't change my job and I never had multiple I-140 filed. In your case, did you change job or had I-140 filed? I am bit curious what caused my A# to change? When we spoke to IIO day before yesterday, he said, the old no. doesn't exist any more and you should use the new no. now on. But my attorney says another thing. He says we should send the ORIGINAL documents as my new EAD/AP have different no. At the same time, my spouse's A# is same in both the renewed docs. I very confused and tensed as my EAD/AP is expiring soon. Please do reply...

Thanks,
