Difference between AP renewal and applying for a new one

My I 485 is under process ,April 2002 , I had an AP which expired on Jan5,2004 ,I have applied for a new one on DEC 16 ,2003 ,
but I didnt know that my old AP could be extended ,I thought you always had to apply for a new one .Is there a diffrent form for renewal ? I just filled the form like I did the first time ? did I mess up ,will the wait be longer for new one rather than the renewal?

Dude,

As far as i know there is NO Renewal of an Advance Parole.
If your current AP expires in Jan Say 5th. you say u intend to take travel from Jan 6th so that you have elligibility to get back.

There is nothing in the form which says 'Renewal'.

Please let me know if i am missing something.
