Hi. Im new in this forum. I think my question has been asked quite a few times here already but it seems like there wasnt really a definite answer. I got my GC in 2014 under EB3 as a nurse. But I didnt work for my sponsoring employer. I shouldered all of the expenses coming here, And my immigration lawyer and petitioner agreed on this. Im almost nearing my 5 years. I want to know if will it affect my citizenship application later on? Will i be questioned? Is it safe for me to apply or just keep on renewing my GC? I dont know what to do. I am in a good situation right now and i have a child. She was born here. I dont want of any chance me getting denied, or be in trouble esp now with trump’s very strict rules. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

Are you saying you submitted deliberately false information on your immigration application?

All the documents that we submitted were valid. My petitioner and lawyer and i have an agreement that its ok for him if i want tow ork for him or not. And I hope I dont get judged for my post. I just want a clear answer. Thanks

I wasn’t trying to “judge” you. It matters about the veracity of the information on your forms because if it’s false you can get your green card taken away. That was why I asked.

You haven't provided enough details in your initial post. Did you ever work for that employer (before the GC)? If not, why? Did you work in a similar line of work (as a nurse) for another employer after you became a permanent resident?

Green cards holders have the right to work at any legal work (except certain federal government jobs). The question in your case is INTENT: can you show that you intended to work for the sponsoring employer? Was it the employer's responsibility that you didn't start working for them?

It is quite possible that during your citizenship application USCIS might dig deeper to establish that the basis for which you got your GC was legal. If they suspect you lied/misrepresented your true intentions, it might be an issue not only for citizenship, but also for your permanent residency.

No I didnt work for that petitioner before GC, yes I am still working as a nurse and i still has contact with my lawyer.

Kabuki,
Employment based GC is sponsored by your employer for a future employment. You are not obligated to work for the employer (its bad form but not illegal) once you gain your GC. However, its best to work in the field for which GC was given which you did by continuing your nursing career.

Assuming that all your's and your sponsoring employer's paper work for GC application was correct, you should be good to go.
