desperate couple need advice

ive been with my girlfriend for nearly 3 years. however im a non us citizan, so we've had to make do with occasional visits and a long distance relationship for most of this time. I've looked into the k1 visa, and all the appropiate material and processes to allow me to marry my partner. however this takes too long, and we cannot wait for that process to be completed. are there any other ways we would be able to be together? i am from the UK and i want to be able to live and work alongside my partner and hopefully settle in the US for good. any advice is appreciated.
 
i guess we are a little impatient, we just cant face spending months apart. does anyone know how long it takes if we do do it by the book? minimum and maximum times? thanks
