Dependent status if H1 expires during 485?

We (Myself, my wife & my kid) have applied for 485 AOS. I am still working on H1B and it will be expiring soon. My company is not planning to apply for a H1/H4 renewal since I have got an approved EAD.

My question is how do the dependents maintain status during 485 process if H1 expires and renewal is not applied. Specifically the minor kid.

Do I need to apply for a EAD for my kid as well?

Anybody please let me know.

sg930,

My understanding is as long as you have an 485 application pending you are maintaining your valid staus. You need nothing else. You need ead as you need to work. Your wife needs ead only if she plans to work. You kid will not need anything else,
( Of course you can only hang around , For travel you need AP, for work you need EAD) > I hope I am right. Even my H1 will be expiring mid 2004, and my Daughter status is currently H4. Even my wife I did not renew the EAD as she is not working.

My attorney did not say anything specific when I applied for EAD ( I haven't asked either).

Some one probably may have specific knowledge ..

Thanks

Pradha thanks for your clarification.

My attorney did ask me if I want to apply for EAD for my kid. I asked why its needed and they said that way he can get a ssn. But I thought why I need to pay for his ead since the expense is mine.
And suddenly I got this terrible thought when my employer said they are not willing to renew my H1 since my EAD is approved.

Thanks for releiving my tension...
