Department of Homeland Security

It seems like a DHS will pass Congress as early as Wednesday.

The INS will be broken into two main parts. The enforcement division (BUREAU OF BORDER SECURITY) will become a part of the DHS. The service division stays at Justice under a new name (Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services).

Goodbye INS.

Do you think it can affect us in any way? Does not seems likely to me, but who knows...

In the short term, it will be more delays/problems/lost files etc as the transition processes are carried out.

In the long term, who knows. I hope we will get a much better agency at the end.

We, who did FP recently probably will be 'home free', but if INS will start transfer files, it means another wasted year(or two...)

They are now saying that BOTH the service and enforcement functions of the INS will fall within the purview of the new DHS.

The situation is fluid.
