Folks ,

I am living in US for last 2 yrs on H1. I work for a company whose Headquarter is in Canada. One of those largest Telco. Can I catogorize myself to be employed by Canadian Business?? What paper work is needed in this regard. I am reading through PR cards guidlines but not getting very clear.

Are you getting a paycheck from Canada? or the branch in the US is paying you? What are you trying to acheive? Are you trying to maintain your Canadian Residency requirements?

If you are just applying for you Canadian PR, and trying to get the 10 points for arranged employment? This will not work. But there is no harm in trying by submitting a letter from your company in Canada, stating that they will transfer you from the US branch to the Canadian office.

Thanks

According to the new law, you can be out of Canada for 3 years and npot loose your PR status. However you will have to be in Canada for the next 2years.

In your case, if you plan on staying in the US past the 3 years... and upon completion of this 3 years you should get a letter from NORTEL CANADA on their letter head stating that you are working for NORTEL CANADA in US. This is the only way you will not loose your PR Status. However if you plan in applying for Canadian Citizenship in 2004, you will not be eligible.

Time should be counted?

Valult and All,

Time spent with Canadian Business outside Canada . is counted as time spent in Canada. Thats what , stated on PR Card Application form. Since I landed in 2001 , to my understanding i should become eligible for citizenship in 2004 ??

I think you are not correct. You are eligible to maintain your PR Status, but you will not be eligible for Citizenship. That's what I have been told by CIC. You should probably call 416-973-4444 to clarify.

Good Luck!!
