Deferring US Citizenship Oath

Hi all,

We were forced to defer the US citizenship oath for my wife. The oath ceremony was on June 10th - we got the notice on June 7th and she was out of the country (visiting India with kids).

I have been told that due to the coming US elections in November, the oath ceremony is held once every month - the next oath ceremony is on July 15th. My question is will my wife's oath ceremony automatically be shifted to July 15th or is it possible that it can be shifted to a much later date ? Is there any way of finding out if / ensuring that she will be called for the July 15th ceremony ? She is in India currently
to attend weddings, etc. and her travel plans depend on this.

Thanks for any info you may have.

You need to check with your local USCIS office as they are the ones who are responsible for scheduling the oath. No one here can definitively tell you when her next oath date will be.

Not automatic. Every month the schedules have a determined number of people fixed at least a month ahead. By the time they are fixing July, they take applications pending from earlier months. So you gotta go to the local district office and tell the situation and you will get a letter in mail at a later date. The INS guys carry citizenship certificates with them to hand them over for ONLY THOSE who were asked to come to the ceremony.

You may be able to however include your better half in July ceremony, if space is available. Good luck!
