Deduct travel days for 5-year calculation?

Got the green card (employment based) on Dec 5, 2011. Did 4-5 international travels (2-4 weeks each time) including a cruise (4 days).
Do I have to deduct these travel days when I was out of USA while calculating the "5 year" requirement? or not?

Just checking if I can send the citizenship application on Dec 5th this year.

Please help.

Thanks a lot!

No. The 5 years is continuous residence. Short trips abroad do not interrupt continuous residence. (And if you had a trip long enough to break continuous residence, you would start over, not deduct.) You would deduct it for the physical presence requirement (which is half the continuous residence requirement, i.e. 2.5 years physical presence for the 5-year rule).

You could file starting Sep 6 this year, since you can file up to 90 days before meeting the continuous residence requirement.
