Receipt Number

Laplacian,

Here is the clue for the Receipt Number decoding .

First 3 character - indicates the Service center , EAC - Vermont , LIN -Nebraska , SRC - Texas , WAC - California

Next 2 character - Indicates Year

Next 3 character - Indicates the day of that year when the application was received starting from Jan 1 being counted as 1.

Last 5 character - Sequence number of all the applications received on that date .

Hope this helps.

USCIS year starts from Oct 1. So, counting starts from from oct 1.
So, if smbdy applies in Nov 2007 at Missouri, his/her receipt no will be...MSC08dddnnnnn

I believe ddd (days) are "no of working days" from oct 1 and not "calendar days"
