Death of sponser

Just curious what will happen to file if petitioner(sponsor) dies before visa process is completed.

What category is this? If it's as the spouse of a citizen, it will automatically become a widow(er) petition. For other categories, there is section 204(l), which says the petition is still usable if the immigrant resides in the U.S. at the time of the death of the petitioner, and continues to reside in the U.S.
