DCF or CP for US Citizen's Wife

I have this following question:
My friend is a US Citizen and he filed for I130/I485/I765/AP thru Chicago Lock Box. In their I130/I485 interview they were told that her wife is stuck in name check process. Now due to some family emergency they both have to go to India for some extended period of time. Is it possible for them to withdraw this pending I130/I485 and file for DCF thru New Delhi US embassy. Do they have to withdraw now or can they do it from India after DCF has been approved for processing. Also if this isnot feasible is it possible for my US citizen friend to withdraw the pending I130/I485 and file for another I130 indicating Consular Processing option. His wife was last in EAD status in US got from I130/I485 filing.

It is very risky to leave the country before the approval of form 485. If you have to remember to file advance parole first. just last month my friend lost her father oversea and her 485 was pending. The lawyer told her not think of leaving the country. If you file with the consular office you will fall under different provision. please advice your friend to consider before leaving
