Just got the passport signed at the Washington Dictrict office in Fairfax. We just had one apptmt notice for both the primary and the derivative. Your passport has to have atleast a YEAR validity or else they won't stamp it. If not, you need to take 3 photographs so they can issue u a temporary card and not stamp the passport.
 
My stamping was done on 19th Jan and my PP has not that much life. only 7 months left for expiry. Every thing went on fine and they stamped till my expiry date.
Any body went to Indian embassy for Passport renwal. If so let me know how much time it would take and any other info.
