Hi all
I tried my best but could not find answers in faq or other sites. For a relative based I-130 & I-485 petition filed in Distt office (VSC returned the application directing to file in regional distt office) in Oct 2002, we recently got two notices (First communication from BCIS). So far Only clue we had that application reached the right place was that the fee checks were encashed.

Both notices state:
Notice type: Receipt notice

First one is Case type 1-130

Reciept Date-10/23/2002
Priority Date-10/23/2002
Notice date- 03/08/2004
Receipt Number: MSC-XX-XXX-XXXXX
In front of beneficiary name it gives another number: AXXXXXXXX

Other one is Case type I-485
same RD, PD and ND: and also has AXXXXXXXX number in front of applicant's name

When we check the status online: it says application was received on march 8th and we will process it in upto 180 days.

my question is : what do these dates mean? what was happening to these applicaiton during last year? Is Notice date is the date when they acknoledge the application. What is this AXXXXXXXXX number? Is this visa number?
I dont see anywhere written as Approval notice. What stage of the process we are?
Any information or pointer to information will be appreciated.

the application was filed at district office and being processed while being in US. The processing date for 485 at that office is May 2002. However, as per visa bulletin, the visa number for this category are being given to app received in october 2000. So, do you think when the district office would reach october 2002 (which is priority date for our 485) they would not adjust the status because the visa number is not avaialable?
