Data fix SEVIS system

Question regarding SEVIS system

I am currently a post-doctoral research fellow from Germany working in New York. Due to a minor communication problem between my institute and the University which is handling my VISA issue, I was reported as a 'no-show' in the SEVIS system in March of 2004. Since then, I am legally working here in the US; however, my status as 'no show' in the SEVIS system has not changed.

After nine months residing in the US, I would like to go back home to Germany to see my family for Christmas. According to my affiliated university (sponsor), a letter that presumably would allow me to re-enter the US can be provided. However, I am afraid that there is a risk that I may not be able to re-enter the US, which would have serious professional and private implications.

Is there anybody in this portal who could recommend anything based on their experiences? Is it safe to leave the country and re-enter with such a letter?

I have been waiting nine months for my case to be “data fixed,” but my impression is that nothing has been resolved. Does anybody have an idea how long it takes to fix a 'no show' status in the SEVIS system?

I would be very grateful if you could provide me with any information regarding this difficult situation.

Thank you very much.

Data fix

I am basically in exactly the same situation. I was supposed to join my university in Fall quarter and could not and then joined in the Winter quarter but my SEVIS record was cancelled. A data fix request was made. It has been three months and there is no progress. I am very disappointed to find that in your case 9 months have elapsed. Basically, no time frame is given for data fix requests. thats what I have found out.

I had the same problem... "no show" in the Sevis System.
My case was fixed after 4 months (which I thought took just incredibly long)... but nine months!? That's just unbelievable!
