Done with the interview and oath today at Irving office.
Interview
The appointment time for me and my spouse was one hour apart (9 and 10). We both went in at the same time, 30 min before the first appointment. I felt like going through airport security check point as they ask you to remove belts, watches, etc. We went up, presented our appointment letters and were given the buzzer. The lady informed us that they will buzz us once the officer is ready for our interview. There are about 30 people waiting along with us. After about an hour or so, I was called in. The lady who took the interview was very courteous.
She went through the application with me and confirmed my answers. She asked me when I had taken the last trip out of US. I gave her the month and approximate dates. She said that is good and ticked the section about travel. She did not even open my passport.
Then she asked me the 6 standard questions
Who is governor of our state?
Who was the first President?
Name 2 national holidays?
What is one responsibility of a US citizen?
Name one longest river in US?
What is the supreme law of the land?
I got all 6 correct. There are 10 in all I think. Then she asked me to read a question - Who is the President of United States? then read the answer - The President of United States is Barak Obama. Then asked me to write the answer.
She apologized saying that the computers were running a little slow. After about 5 min fiddling with the console, she said I have passed the test and she is recommending me for the interview. She asked me if I would be willing to take the oath today. (Offcourse I was). I said yes and she gave me the oath letter and asked to come back for oath at 1:30. That was it.
oh.. during the interview she also mentioned that this has been the best interview so far. I asked why?. She said most of the people she interviewed so far were nervous and fidgeted. I smiled
I had carried all papers mentioned in the sticky given in the forum but was asked only for GC, SSN card, Passport and Driving license.
Oath
Reached there at about 1:15. The lady in charge was very nice and seated everyone. She asked us to fill out the back of the oath letter - any changes since the interview to marital status, travel out of country, arrests etc. She joked about it as everyone in the room had been interviewed the same morning (She said something like unless you got a quick marriage during lunch, check all the No boxes)
The seats were arranged in three sections. She asked the citizen applicants to occupy the middle section and the rest to seat in other two sections. The person assisting her then called one row at a time, verified the Oath letter and GC. Then the lady took the GC and asked us to take one each of the goodies kept on the table next to her. The goodies included - letter from the President, US Constitution, Citizen handbook or something, one paper giving information about stuff like SSN, voter registration etc and the flag. After that she introduced us to the lady who was going to administer the oath. They showed some video about how diverse US immigrants are. Then the lady administering the oath asked everyone to stand up and repeat the oath after her. After that she announced that all of you are citizens now
. There were 75 people who were sworn in today.
After that we sang the national anthem. Then the two ladies distributed the certificates.
That's all... now for the passport
