Crossing Canada border after stamping

Suppose I travel within 2-3 days of stamping to Canada(and I do not have the plastic card), can the INS agent ask me about employer letter/ pay stubs etc. proving job/company.

Theoritically, is he required by law to let me in without any questions as I am a permanent resident? I have heard stories of H-1 and AP travellers getting harrassed like that.

The INS inspector should/will ask questions when you re-enter the US. The mere fact that you got PR just few days ago can\'t be used against you. In fact the INS inspectors are required to ask about travel abroad even to U.S. Citizens!

They can always ask any question (i.e. within legal limits).
But normally they don\'t, atleast not in my two re-entries (I had the GC card in both cases, if it matters)

Last time when I entered via JFK, the INS Inspector did just swipe the card. She didn\'t even look at the photo, my face, my passport, or ask a question.
