Hello everyone,

I wanted to know if I stand any chance in EB1 or NIW categories with my current credentials or should I wait for couple of years before trying (1st year, H-1B). Also how can I improve my credentials to stand a good chance?

1. Education: BE in Biomedical Engineering from India (2006); MSE in Biomedical Engineering from a US university - 1st ranked in Biomedical Engineering (2009)

2. Research Experience: 1 year research experience between my undergrad and grad; 2 year research experience during my grad (as a part of my thesis work)
Currently, I am working as a Biomedical Researcher in a start-up company, and would be soon writing my own grant proposals. My current research work is related to neurological monitoring.

3. Publications: 7 journal papers (4 first-author, 6 international); 10 conference papers (6 first-author, 6 international)
There are few more papers which are submitted to journals (pending decision) and few more clinical abstracts which would be submitted soon.

4. Reviewing Experience: I had got a reviewing invitation from an international conference last year, but I had to reject it because of exams. I will hopefully get it this year too, so that I can accept it. Other than that, I have reviewed papers for a local conference in India.

5. Awards: Tuition Fellowship for MSE; Gold Medals for First Rank in BE Biomedical Engg and Best Outgoing BE Graduate

6. Scientific Memberships: 2 international organizations (easy to join by paying membership fee)

Your help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks a lot!

Hi crazee,

Seems like you are in a real hurry to do it. Me too lol.

I am new to this topic. But looking at people who got Niw, your chances are so and so. You don't seems to have a chance in EB1 (That's only my opinion).

By looking at your credentials I can say that you are quite young, may be mid or late twenties. You still have opertunities to improve your credentials. Even though you might have a chance in niw, If it get denied you'll loose the chance to come back to US in F, J or even B status.

One other thing. Even though not required (at least in basic requirements) NIW applicants usually have a phd. Think about it.

You seems to have a good publication record for your short career. But think about the actual quality of those publications. Besides, number of out of loop citations is important.

If you think you can find a job and if you still think that you want to do things very fast, then labour certification is a good option. (unless your country is backlogged).

Your No.5 and 6 will not count strongly.
