CP to I-485 Dilemma

Hi, I have been reading this forum for a while since I was still in the labor stage. It has been very helpful, educating and encouraging, so I am hoping some of the gurus in the forum will give me a light :) .
Since my labor got cleared finally after 4 years at the end of last month, I moved onto filing I-140 this month thinkinf of doing CP. (I am on EB2 from a country where you can still do the concurrent filing on EB2.) But my situation changed so I want/need to do I-485 filing. I spoke to my lawyer about it, and he first said that he wants to get the receipt of I-140 filing for I-485 filing, and it would take about 2 weeks to get it. Today I called his office and spoke to his assistant who handles filings. She said it would take about 2 MONTHS to get the receipt!!!!!  2 months is absolutely not what I can bear. So, my questions are:

1) It is really necessary to get the receipt of I-140 filing to file I-485 when done separetely?
2) If the receipt is necessary, is it possible to cancel the current I-140 filing and start a concurrent filing?

I feel like I fell into a deep dark pit again. Please someone give me a light of hope...
