CP to AOS change. How long did it take to get EAD?

For those of you who initially opted for Consular Processing on their I-140/I-130 petitions but later ended up doing AOS by filing I-485, how long did it take for your EAD to come through?

Did you think it took longer or was it just regular processing time?

Also anyone out there with the above mentioned situation who finally got approval.

Thanks a lot.

Not abig deal

My wife and I had initially applied for CP and then changed our minds (now looking back at it, we should have just stuck with it) and filed 485/EAD/AP etc.

It took about 4 months for the EAD to be delivered into our mail box, which I guess was fairly standard during that time.

Applied in Nov, got it in March 02

Hey Amit

Thanks for the response. Why do you feel in hindsight that you should have stuck with the CP route? The reason I am having second thoughts now is the cost of the trip. I mean around $2500 for round trip tickets to India, the expense in India and the hassle of going there. I dont know if its worth it. So did you finally get your I-485 approval or are you still waiting.

Thanks

Timing Issue

Well, at the time we had to make that decision, the processing time difference between CP/AOS was about 2 months. So it didn't seem like a big deal to switch to AOS (for the same reasons you mentioned).

But now, its been almost 10 months, and I am still waiting for AOS to be done. People who had gotten their 140 approvals at the same time as me got done with their CP sometime in Jan, and actually got their plastic sometime around March.

I feel the uncertainty of not knowing what is happening to your application is the biggest downside of AOS. And its something that is completely out of your own control. That's all.

You can check some cp postings in another section of this forum and see if they make sense given youe own scenario.

Just keep in mind that hindsight is always 20/20.
